Behind the Scenes with the Crave Bullet Vibrator

We’re nearly sold out of our first limited release of the Crave Bullet Vibrator, and we wanted to give you a look behind the scenes at how we went about creating this modern version of a classic toy.

Over the past few years, we’ve been focused on creating entirely new categories of sex toys, connecting both with people who loved sex toys and were ready for something new as well as with people who had never considered a sex toy before because they didn’t find the available products appealing.

And both the people who adored sex toys and the people who were put off by sex toys told us about bullet vibrators. They loved the compact size and shape. It was a perfect first vibe for someone who didn’t want a giant vibrating phallus that took up half the nightstand drawer space. And it worked with harnesses and cock rings and dildos and other toys, solo or with a partner.

But for some people (including most of the people on our design team), there was just nothing sexy about a small cheap plastic toy with a loud buzz and expensive batteries that was hard to use and challenging to clean. We wanted no part of it, and yet we found ourselves curious about why people found them so compelling, even when more innovative products were starting to come to market.

The more we talked to people, the more we began to understand. The simple shape of the bullet was approachable and unassuming. The small size was compact and powerful. And the compatibility with other toys really made it a must-have.

Could we honor what people loved about their bullet vibes and yet wholly reinvent them? Could we bring our design and engineering creative problem-solving skills to the challenges this toy presented? To be honest, it was a bit harder than we imagined. Maintaining the classic 60mm size for compatibility while incorporating a rechargeable power source was no small feat. Rethinking the button control to avoid inadvertent on/off pushes was also more difficult than we expected. And securing all of the components in a fully-waterproof housing was also an engineering challenge.

The finished product, our new Crave Bullet Vibrator, is a reflection of all of this: the conversations we had with customers, retailers, and friends over the years; a desire to preserve the delights of the form while eliminating the compromises people have settled for; and an entire year of design, prototyping, engineering and manufacturing. We are thrilled with the results and hope that you will be too.
